Our plans called for us to pick up a rental car in Oxford, and spent the next week roaming the Cotswolds. So I had my first experience at driving on the wrong side of the road. Not to mention shifting with my left hand, as most rentals in the UK are manuals.
It was certainly awkward at first. I was fighting 50 years of driving experience.
Our first village goal was Burton, and we also got our first taste of extremely narrow roads with vine-covered stone walls on either side. It was probably along here that I smacked the passenger side mirror against a branch.
Then on to Bourton-on-the-water, our next Cotswold village. There’s a stream running through town, which I suppose is where it gets its name. We found out later there is also a “Clarkson’s Farm” connection. Really liked the villages.
