We were on our way to Galway early again, this time to the docks to catch a boat to the Aran Islands, Inshmore, the largest, to be exact. We hadn’t counted on paying another €50 for a tour of the island in a van, but it was really the only way to get around unless we wanted to rent bicycles.
Still, it was well worth it. Interesting islands. They were originally covered completely in rock, but settlers broke up the rock to make fences and shelters, then mixed seaweed with the revealed soil until it would support crops. Incredible amount of work.
Another great feature of the tour – on the way back we did a slow cruise past the Cliffs of Moher. They are even more impressive from the sea.
